The staff at Crater Community Hospice is celebrating their 25th year in the community by going above and beyond during the public health emergency.
Crater Community Hospice sent a “Love Caravan” to senior care provider Dunlop House in Colonial Heights, Virginia to encourage and support their residents and staff during this difficult time of social distancing. The hospice team decorated their cars and paraded around the facility honking their horns and waving as residents and staff cheered and waved back.
Bill Humphreys, Community & Physician Liaison for Crater Community Hospice planned this event with Christi Norton, Director of Marketing for Dunlop House. “It was a small gesture of our support and encouragement during this difficult time. We had a lot of fun and hopefully we brought a little joy to their day; it certainly brought joy to our day,” Humphreys said.
To provide spiritual support to the community, Chaplain Father Thierry Hakpon recorded "A Message of Hope.” In this video message, Father Thierry acknowledges the fears and concerns that people may have during the COVID-19 pandemic but offers words of encouragement and a short prayer for health and safety.
The dedication to support is equally prevalent on the operational side of the organization, such as Office Manager Linda Maitland. Linda was hired when the organization first began, and over those twenty-five years has continued to fulfill the mission of Crater Community Hospice.
Together, the staff’s outreach to the community and support of each other shows an organization full of Faces of Caring.
If you would like to share the creative ways your hospice and palliative care team is caring for patients amid the COVID-19 crisis, please send us your photos and stories so you can be featured in the #hapcFacesOfCaring campaign.
